Today morning poornabhishekam was performed as part of sastha preethi festivities. Samaradhanai was there around 2 PM. Swami ezhunallathu was there around 10.30 PM

Kanu Pongal/Kanu Pidi

Kanu was celebrated today.

The Brahmin community celebrates the Maatu Pongal day as Kanu, as Maatu Pongal is mainly associated with only farmers. This day is to honour the crows.
The women in the house will keep a feast for the crows in the backyard of the house or terrace. The feast contains the previous day’s rice. While they keep the feast, they say together “Kaaka pidi vechchen, kanu pidi vechchen, kaakaikkellam kalyanam” meaning “I kept handfuls for the crow, I kept handfuls for kanu, it is marriage for all crows”. There are other variations like “Kaaka pidi vechchen, kanu pidi vechchen, kaakaikkum kuruvikum kalyanam” meaning “I kept handfuls for the crow, I kept handfuls for kanu, it is marriage for crows and sparrows” or "Kakaipidi vachen Kannupidi vachen, Kakka kuutam kalienchalum, enka koottam kalayama irukkenum" meaning "i hereby make an offering for the crows, for the family, even if the crow family splits, mine should not"

avasyam karma karthavyam vaikaana samitham matham
sarva sowkyakaramnroonam aayuraarogyatham baved.

Poorna Pushkala Sametha Hariharaputra swamy

Poorna Pushakala Sametha Hariharaputhra Swamy, the deity in our village. (Hariharaputhra with Poorna and Pushkala)

Lord Hariharaputhra (Son of Hari [Lord Vishnu] and Haran [Lord Shiva]) or Lord Ayyappa. The devotees of Ayyappa call him by several favorite names that include, Dharmashasta (one who established Dharma), Manikanta (born with a bell on the neck) etc.

This picture is uthsavamoorthi (festival idol) decorated with flowers and taken in theru (wooden cart) and taken through out the village as part of annual 9 day celebration.

Laksha Deepam - Thiruvananthapuram Padmanabhaswamy Temple

The biggest festival in Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple is laksha deepam, which means hundred thousand (or one lakh) lamps. This festival is unique and commences once in 6 years. Prior to this festival, chanting of prayers and recitation of three vedas is done for 56 days. On the last day, hundred thousand oil lamps are lit in and around the temple premises. Laksha deepam Festival is today.
